Careers Quiz 2014

The Interclass Careers Quiz for Form 1 to 3 students was successfully held on 30th October. The purpose of the quiz was to test our studentsˇ¦ knowledge of the different study pathways available to them and the characteristics of different jobs so that they can make a decision regarding their career choices at an early stage.

  

JUPAS / NON-JUPAS Sharing Sessions 2014

The JUPAS / NON-JUPAS Sharing Sessions 2014 were successfully held in October. Four sharing sessions were conducted on 14th, 16th, 23rd and 27th October, after school, from 4:15 to 5:30 pm, in the Biology laboratory. SPCS graduates, who are currently Year 1 / 2 students at various local universities, were invited to share their experiences of making JUPAS / NON-JUPAS choices with our F5 and F6 students. They also talked about their individual study programmes and life at university in general. All participants found the sharing sessions very useful.

  

Prosecution Week

On 26th June 2014, Paulinians were invited to attend a Prosecution Week event held by the Department of Justice, on the theme ˇ§Fearless, Accountable, Impartial, Robustˇ¨. The activity was jointly organized by the English Debating Society and the Careers Team to promote studentsˇ¦ awareness of the rule of law. A detailed briefing on the work of the Prosecutions Division provided an opportunity for Form 5 students to consider work in court as a possible career option in the future. Students also visited the District Court and did a role-play activity in the Mock Court, which enabled them to observe the operation of court proceedings. Through this fruitful experience, students were able to have a good understanding of the importance of the role of citizens in the Hong Kong criminal justice system.
  

HKU Nursing Admission Talk

We were very pleased to have Dr. Agnes Tiwari, Head of the School of Nursing (HKU) and Ms. Emily Yuen, an outstanding student ambassador, give our students an admission talk on 30th May 2014. Professor Tiwari, who had wanted to be a nurse ever since she was a child, introduced the importance of medical advancement in the field of nursing. She also emphasized that nurses were as essential to the medical profession as doctors. Furthermore, the guest speakers provided detailed and valuable information, such as the responsibilities of nurses and the future prospects of graduates. All the students found the talk very insightful.
  

Visit to Joides Resolution Scientific Drillship

On 27th January 2014, 15 Form Five science students were invited to visit the Joides Resolution Scientific Drillship organised by HKUST. Students were given a 40-minute guided tour on board. Various facilities and scientific technology, ranging from mass spectrometry to chromatography, used for analyzing sediment and rock samples, were explained. Special technology such as the dynamical positioning system for stabilizing the vessel while drilling the seabed, was also introduced to our students. The next expedition of the Drillship is to obtain sediments and rock core samples from the seabed of the South China Sea, in order to analyse the tectonic evolution of the South China Sea. Our visit to the ship was indeed an extraordinary learning experience, and we are honoured to be given this valuable opportunity.
  

UK Roadshow 2013

Following the success of last year's UK Roadshow, we were once again honoured to have representatives from 34 UK universities, along with British Council, come to our school to hold the UK Roadshow on 27th September for our Form 4-6 students. The Roadshow commenced with a 30-minute presentation in the School Hall by two university representatives on the UK education and university admissions system. Our students obtained valuable advice on choosing the right university course and admissions information in the UK. After the talk, students and their parents were able to have face-to-face consultation with representatives from all the different universities at their respective booths in the covered playground. Paulinians have definitely gained a better understanding of UK universities and the UK Roadshow ended on a high note.
