2015-16 Pilot Career Programme for Non-Chinese Speaking Students offered by Caritas |
During the school year of 2015-16, our school was invited by Caritas Hong Kong, which has been commissioned by The Hong Kong Education Bureau to take part in their Pilot Career Programme for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) students in secondary schools. As most career-related information and career opportunities provided to students in Hong Kong are in Chinese, the programme helped to bridge the language gap by providing English-based career information and experiences to our NCS students and parents. We are pleased to announce that the pilot programme was launched in our school with great success!
A small group consisting of 18 Form 2 and Form 3 NCS students participated in the programme from March to August 2016. Creative activities were designed for this purpose and social workers from Caritas helped students to understand what they were each suited for in terms of personality, ambition and skill. The experience was further enriched by job visits to multiple workplaces, which students had previously expressed interest in. Guest speakers from different professions were also invited to share their career journey with the students. It was truly a valuable experience for the students!
At the conclusion of the programme, students were given a list of possible job options formulated from a test they had completed in the earlier days of the workshop. All the students felt that the programme has helped them to explore different career options and brought them a step closer to achieving their goals. Given the successful implementation of the programme in 2015-16, the programme will be provided to our F2 NCS students in 2016-17.
