Survey on Preference of Books

I. Preference of Story Books

More than half of F1, F2 and F3 students liked to read books on mysterious and adventure stories. There was a gradual increase from F.1 to F.3 ranging from 34% to 47% in selecting love stories as their favourite kind of books.

II. Preference of Research Books

Amongst their choices of research books, biology, general science, astronomy, home economics and history were popular categories for F.1 to F.3 students. At least 38% of students from each form selected from one of the categories mentioned. There was a big leap in students (52 students in F.1 to 138 students in F.2) selecting Guinness Records as preferable research books. The statistics agreed with the fact that students demanded more statistical support for their research projects in school.

Under the 'others' column, some students opted for 'sports', 'music' and 'art' as their preference. Some F.1 students misunderstood the meaning of 'research book' by putting 'story', 'novel' and 'dictionary' in this column. Nevertheless, only around 4% of F.2 and F.3 students chose 'others' in selecting research books. It showed that the items of research books had covered the majority of the scope of students' interests.

III. Personal Interest on Reading Books

There was a great diversity of personal interests on reading books. The suggestions were fashion, astronomy, drawing, psychology, dancing, joke, mind game, magic, stamp, marine life and many more. There were more than 300 types of personal interests among 746 students.

IV. Book Lovers' Club

There were 310 (F.1 to F.3) students who liked to join the Book Lovers' Club, totalling up to more than 40% of the total number of students in F.1 to F.3.
